Going to Egypt has always been a childhood dream. I grew up reading Agatha Christie and Egypt seem to be her favourite holiday destination. Death on the Nile was one of my favourite book which made me crave to go to Egypt. In fact when Egypt had their revolution many years back I was so worried the Pyramids would get ruined and I haven’t even had a chance to visit 🤣🤣
I went on this trip with my 2 ladies friends celebrating our 10+ years of friendship. It is a tight pack itinerary because we want to do so many but we don’t have much time. Can’t leave families and work for too long.
So here’s our itinerary which covers all Egypt must see and do. We flew to Jordan on our last days because we wanted to visit Petra. There are other places worth visiting in Jordan but we don’t have much time so we focus only on Petra.

Most people go on packaged tour to Egypt because it is more convenient to have transport and guide arranged. Egypt is doable to do without a packaged tour and you can do your own itinerary in your own pace. I found a local travel agent based in Aswan called Aswan Individual from Trip Advisor. Aswan Individual helped me with car+guide arrangement and a last minute cruise from Aswan to Luxor. I build my own itinerary and choose where I want a guide and where I want to explore on my own. Sometimes we get a good guide and sometimes we don’t. We got lucky that on average we get a good guide and one of our guide for Kom Ombo and Edfu is truly exceptional. He has a depth knowledge on Egypt history and Hyeroglyph. He is also very well known among other guides who were praising him in front of us.
Cairo can be explored easily with Londoncab which works with application just like Uber. For other cities such as Aswan and Luxor, best to have car arranged because taxis there are old and have no aircon. Not too mention Luxor seemed to have the worst touts which practically hassle all the tourist they met along the Nile Corniche with all kind of offers from Horse chaleche to private guide and to ferry to cross West Bank.
